Calculating your exact age in years, months, and days is trickier than it looks — months have different lengths, leap years add a day, and most simple methods get it slightly wrong.

Step-by-Step Age Calculation

Exact Age (Years → Months → Days)

Age = (Today − Date of Birth)

Step 1: Subtract birth year from current year

Step 2: If birthday hasn't occurred this year yet — subtract 1 year, add 12 months

Step 3: Subtract birth month from current month for remaining months

Step 4: If birth day > today's day — borrow a month and adjust days

Example: Born November 15, 1990 — Age on July 2, 2026

Years: 2026 − 1990 = 36, but birthday (Nov) hasn't passed yet → 35 years

Months: July(7) to November(11) = 4 months remaining

Days: 15 − 2 = 13 days into the current month period

✓ Age = 35 years, 7 months, 17 days

Why Most Quick Calculations Are Wrong

Simple subtraction (years only) — ignores whether your birthday has passed yet this year. Can be off by 1 year.
Dividing by 365 — ignores leap years (one extra day every ~4 years). Off by ~6 days per decade.
Multiplying by 30 for months — months have 28–31 days. Using 30 introduces cumulative error.
