How It Works
How GPA Is Calculated — Formula, Examples & Scale
GPA (Grade Point Average) converts letter grades into numbers, weights them by credit hours, and produces a single average. Here is the exact formula and worked examples.
The GPA Formula
GPA Formula (Standard)
GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) / Σ Credits
Quality Points = Grade Points × Credit Hours per course
GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours
Worked Example — 4-Course Semester
